Apply to the MESIS call, learn about the Outsport educational method on LGBTIQ+ inclusion

The Erasmus+ MESIS project aims to foster inclusive sport communities by developing competencies and e-learning tools based on the Outsport method. 

As part of the core project activities, four partners from Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal, Slovenia, will select 15 participants (60 in total), who will join a comprehensive Capacity Building designed to build knowledge and competencies for coaches and PE teachers in the field of Education Through Sport and LGBTI issues. 

The 60 selected participants will be divided into the 3 planned Capacity Building Sessions (CBS) which will take place in Italy, Slovenia and Portugal between March and April. Each session will last 4 days. Travel and accommodation costs are covered by the organisation. 

We expect coaches and PE teachers coming from Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal, Slovenia.

In September 2023,  the Outsport method has been recognized by the World Health Organization, in the volume Inclusive, sustainable, welcoming national sports federations: health promoting sports federation implementation guidance. For the first time, the WHO introduced the inclusion of LGBTI people among the factors that contribute to health promotion in sport, by showcasing the Outsport Toolkit in its good practices collection. 

This Toolkit is a result of the Outsport project. After delivering the first research on LGBTI people’s experiences in Sport (German Sport University of Cologne, 2018),  a specific Toolkit was issued in 2019 by the project partners aimed at applying Education Through Sport (ETS) on the SOGIESC field (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, Sexual Characteristics). 

ETS is based on the Human Rights Education framework issued by the Council of Europe (Compass Manual). It combines non-formal education and experiential learning with sport activities as a learning tool. Furthermore, the last version of the European Sports Charter released in 2022 (art. 7), confirms the relevance of this perspective by valuing “education in values through sports ethics”

After attending the CBS the project organisations will issue a detailed certificate describing the acquired competencies.
